Cyanogen mod 12.1 is a custom firmware it is different from CM OS 12.Last week Cyanogen released Android for devices. CM 12S is based on Android v5.0.2 Lollipop, and the CM 12.1 is based on the latest AOSP(Android Open Source Project) that is Android 5.1 Lollipop. CM 12.1 comes with large numbers of bug fixes and performance-enhancing tweaks.
The CM 12.1 Nightlies version is an Official CyanogenMod ROM, but it is bit unstable and there are some untested bugs (nothing major of sort) which are yet to be fixed. Cyanogen is working on a more stable version M(Milestone) series, and till then users can explore the features of the new ROM.
Before installing read the following informations :
The CyanogenMod [Official] Android 5.1 custom ROM can be installed on any Android Device. Though installing custom ROM on devices improves its performance and UI experience, but it makes company warranty void and they will not provide you any update in future [users can restore warranty by flashing the Android device with stock-ROM].
- Before installing custom ROM make sure device is rooted.
- Backup all your data before installing custom ROM because installing of custom ROM requires cleaning of memory.
- Make sure USB drivers are installed on your PC, otherwise your device[Moto E] will not be recognized by the PC.
- Make sure your device is 80% charge or above.
[Disclaimer : This is very technical process and should be performed by a person having some knowledge about Rooting (or manual software installion) Android devices.]
To install CM 12.1 Bacon Follow the steps :
Step 1: Download CyanogenMod 12.1 Bacon [Official] Android 5.1 Lollipop custom ROM.[Note : Before installing the custom rom, make sure your device is rooted and has installed ClockworkMod Recovery/TWRP tools.]
Step 2: Connect your device to PC.
Step 3: Then place CM 12.1 custom ROM zip file and Google Apps zip file into the phone's storage memory or internal memory.[Note : Paste the file to root folder]
Step 4: Now turn off your device and disconnect it from the PC.
Step 5: Then go to Recovery Mode by holding volume(Down) and Power buttons.
Step 6: Then clear the phone memory by selecting wipe data/factory reset.
[Note : Use volume buttons to navigate]
Step 7: Now clear the cache memory by selecting wipe cache partition.
Step 8: Then to go back to ClockworkMod, and select advanced and select wipe dalvik cache.
Step 9: Again come back to main recovery screen and select install zip from SD card.
Step 10: Then select choose zip from SD Card and go to CM 12.1 custom ROM zip file and enter the installation process.
Repeat the procedure to install google Apps.
Step 11: After completing the installation process, navigate to '+++++Go Back+++++' and re-start the device by opting 'reboot system now' seen in the recovery menu.
Now your device will take few minutes to complete the booting process.
